And even though we know too much of this "good thing" can pack on the pounds, there are periods in our life we just need to indulge. Or maybe we think that by ratcheting up our willpower a few percentage points, we can shed whatever added weight we gained. And honestly, we can. But, there's a downside to sugar that you rarely hear about. It's called "sugar sag skin." It's where skin loses its elasticity, and fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear beyond the natural aging process. In other words, premature aging of the skin. In fact, some experts say that sugar and sun exposure are the two fastest agers of the skin. Now, most of us wear sunscreen in the summer when the sun's rays are most damaging. But has anyone ever heard of a "sugar screen," with instructions like "swallow 30 minutes before consuming that German chocolate cake in your refrigerator!?" Before we talk about what you can do for "sugar syndromes," let's see exactly what happens when you eat sugar over an extended period of time. Inside your body, the sugars you eat "bind" to proteins in a process called glycation. Not all of them of course, but enough of them. This binding process dramatically alters the way the original protein was supposed to function. Particularly affected are the "youth and beauty proteins," collagen and elastin. You see, during youth, there's a rich abundance of collagen beneath your skin's surface that "pushes" upward and outward giving young skin that full, healthy look. And with optimum quantities of elastin, skin enjoys a high "bounce back" factor, helping to prevent wrinkles from forming while giving skin its firmness. But through the years, the accumulated effect of glycation, known as advanced glycation end-products (AGEs, for short), start to take their toll. Most people experience visual signs between the ages of 30 to 35. Excessive sugar eaters will probably see it sooner. Now the good news! Two landmark double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials proved that a compound called ch- OSA ® (choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid), increased collagen formation in humans. Not just any humans, either. The subjects participating were individuals over 50 with damaged collagen. The results were stunning. When compared to the placebo group, the ch-OSA group decreased fine lines and wrinkles by 30%, increased skin elasticity by 89%, and increased hair volume and strength 13%. There's more Collagen plays a major part in healthy bone. First, bone is comprised of 30% collagen. Second, the collagen acts as the "binding sites" for all bone calcium. Third, collagen gives bone its "pliability." So it came as no surprise that in a separate clinical trial on bone, ch-OSA increased bone collagen formation 15% and increased bone mineral density 2.00%. Keep in mind these were bona fide, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials with statistically significant results (published in prestigious medical journals). You can find ch-OSA in a product called BioSil ® . Learn more at BioSilUSA.com These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
