Promoting Optimal Nutrition with Digestive Stimulating Herbs and Enzymes In youth, diges ve enzymes break down ingested food into vital proteins, fats, and carbohydrates to provide op mal nutri on for the body. But with aging and illness, the body's diges ve func ons deteriorate, leading to gas, bloa ng, par ally digested food, nutri onal deficiencies, and even inflammatory condi ons. Fortunately, herbal formulas (such as "Digestron") and advanced enzyme formula ons make it possible to enhance diges ve health, prevent gastric distress and malnutri on (par cularly in the elderly). You Are What You Digest While healthy foods provide the founda on for op mal health and vitality, even the healthiest foods are of li le use if they are not properly digested. As we age, normal diges on slows down, inhibi ng our ability to process vital nutrients for use throughout the body. If the body cannot extract all the nutrients in our food, our overall health will begin to falter, and can result in a wide range of unwelcome diseases. These problems are o en caused by decreasing levels of the diges ve enzymes that facilitate the crucial breakdown of food in our diges ve tract. The unfortunate result is malnutri on and deficits in crucial nutrients, which may add to a vicious cycle of faltering immunity and escala ng disease, par cularly in the elderly. However, an herbal formula that s mulates enzyme produc on by increasing protease, amylase, lipase, pancrea n, and cellulase has been shown to increase the diges on of a wide range of foods. A broad-spectrum diges ve enzyme may be used intermi ently to assist in diges on. Natural Digestion Support In order to enhance diges on, a number of various enzyme components are crucial to boos ng the natural diges ve process. One of the most important ingredients is pancrea n—a mixture of several enzymes ordinarily released by the pancreas in response to the presence of food in the intes nes. Pancrea n contains enzymes such as proteases to facilitate the break down of proteins into amino acids; amylase to cleave complex carbohydrate molecules into manageable sugars; and lipase to facilitate the break down of lipids (be er known as fats) into usable components. Other desirable supplemental components include lactase to assist the body's ability to break down lactose (milk sugar) from dairy products; papain from papaya, to assist with protein diges on. What is Digestion? Once swallowed, food begins an amazing journey through the alimentary canal; a journey that, when all goes according to plan, ends by providing us with health-promo ng nutrients, and by fueling us with life- sustaining energy.
