It's not unusual for homeowners to fear that their house may be condemned. e good news is that not all mold problems required "tear out" remediation. Most homes and offices can safely be sanitized using cost effective green technology. Following are the common treatment options: 1. KILL MOLD WITH BLEACH University of Oregon proved that bleach does not kill mold. Bleach introduces highly toxic chemicals into the indoor air. While bleach is in most households, few people know that it is banned in Europe because of its toxicity. Besides being a probable carcinogen, it causes gene mutations which lead to birth defects. Even though the mold looks like it's gone, it will grow back. It is 2-10x more hazardous than outdoor air. Today more people are making the connection between health and their environment. Family members will respond differently to exposure, but everyone's immune system will be taxed by elevated levels of mold. Some will show symptoms quickly while others may not for decades. More and more homes are being environmentally tested because of chronic illness and poor health. A common sequence will sound something like this. A family member gets sick. ey go to their doctor, who cannot find a specific cause for their problems. e doctor prescribes antibiotics, or in some cases, anti-depressants, which seem to help some of the time; but oen people will go through several different types of antibiotics over several months. At this point, the person's condition is chronic. Symptoms come and go, and overall health declines, and the medical doctor cannot find the source of the problem. Oen, he isn't even looking for the source of the problem. Herein is the biggest problem, oen both the doctor and the patient, accept chronic illness as "nor- mal". ey have no longer believe that optimum health is attainable. Oen a person will say "I have been tested for everything. ey can't find any reason for my illness." I then ask, "Were you screened for mold or their associated mycotoxins?" Usually the answer is "I don't know." I then reply, "Mold is not a part of "everything"." Unless a medical doctor is a board certified environmental physician, he was not trained to screen for mold spores or mycotoxins when looking for the cause of chronic illness, unexplainable symptoms or a diagnosable disease. e fact is, we know very little about mold, but the scientific research is steadily growing. e real source of the health issues can go undetected for years, decades, thus leading to even more serious health problems. e EPA says that our #1 health problem is indoor air pollution. Below are early warning signs of mold exposure. is is a short, partial list. Symptoms can include learning, behavioral problems and mental acuity. • Allergies • Headaches • Cough and Chronic colds • Sinusitis • Dizziness • General fatigue or malaise • Fever • Nausea • Ear infections • Dermatisis • Nosebleeds • Flu-like symptoms Source: Nature's Mold RX, the Non-Toxic Solution to Toxic Mold by Edward Close, Phd.
