based products to use on your pets that will keep them flea free. The best advice of all, however, for keeping your home pest free is to keep it clean and deodorized from the start. Avoid commercial deodorizers however, and opt instead for natural ones made with essential oils (essential oils are compounds found within aromatic plants). Try citrus oils in your kitchen and flower oils in your bathrooms. FACT: Chemical wood preservatives account for the single largest pesticide use in the United States today. Home Office If you have a home office or room where you store arts and crafts, you may want to rethink how you store glues, ink cartridges, liquid paper, rubber cement, carbon paper, and so on. Keep all of these products, which will be labeled as toxic, in sealed containers. As with any other room, you should keep this one well ventilated and place a large plant or two in a corner. Light It Up Naturally For all your house's rooms, try to bring in as much natural light as possible so you don't have to resort to so much artificial lighting. Both fluorescent and incandescent lighting lack the full spectrum of wavelengths that exist in sunlight. Depriving yourself of natural sunlight has known health consequences, from chaotic circadian rhythms to depression. Circadian rhythms are the patterns of repeated activity associated with cycles of day and night. Our internal rhythms repeat roughly every twenty- four hours, and involve the sleep-wake cycle, the ebb and flow of hormones, the rise and fall of body temperature, and other subtle rhythms that mesh with the twenty-four hour solar day. Spending time each day outside in the natural light is the key to keeping your body's rhythms aligned (it will also get you out of the more polluted indoors). You can also consider installing full-spectrum lighting in places where you spend the most time in your home. These lights can be purchased at home improvement and hardware stores. Pure, whole herbs.
