In This Issue It is estimated that as many as 5.4 million Americans may have Alzheimer's Disease and the most recent date suggests over half a million Americans die from Alzheimer's each year placing it in the top three killer diseases in the U.S., right behind heart disease and cancer. It is estimated that about a half million Americans younger than 65 have some form of dementia, including Alzheimer's. The number of people 65 and older will more than double by 2050! Because there is no conventional cure and few successful medical treatments available, once Alzheimer's sets in, prevention is the best defense.
