Corrugated boxes with identical ECT and/or BCT can provide remarkably different long term compression performance, which is not well addressed by typical end user specification practices. An examination of critical properties of corrugated board and its component papers provides insights for increasing useful box life. This presentation will examine issues associated with current end user specification methods, identify key factors which accelerate loss of box compression strength, and propose new approaches for improving long term box compression performance. More relevant specifications should result in lower cost and reduced environmental impact. Introduction: Corrugated shipping containers are a marvel of the modern world, and are a key enabler of the current day global economy. They not only contain products for the supply chain functions of shipping, handling, and storage – they enable stacking of packaged product and thereby support maximized efficiency throughout these functions. While corrugated containers can provide additional functions, the focus of this paper is on the ability of corrugated containers to perform in a stacked environment in long supply chains. > inside Inside ISTA Headquarters • ISTA Asia Pacific Packaging Symposium • NEW ISTA European Division Board Chair • Technical Library Update • Process Expo • PACK EXPO Las Vegas • 2016 TransPack Forum • 2017 TransPack Forum Location pages 4-10 Welcome New Members pages 12-13 CPLP Corner pages 14-15 ISTA Technical Update • Why Should You Consider Submitting a Test Report • Updated Test Report Templates Available • Test Report Processing pages 16-17 Long Term Corrugated Container Compression Performance – A Fresh Look at the Factors Which Degrade Box Compression Strength The following paper was recently presented at ISTA's 2015 TransPack Forum in Orlando, Florida.
