Many people ask me how real estate is truly related to the data center sector and
ultimately how a RICS Chartered Surveyor came to work in the data center industry.
The answer is that the two are intricately linked, and without real estate, the data
center sector we know today wouldn't be the same. Real estate is at the heart of
every economy, alongside finance and commerce. And if you analyze the roots of
the data center market, you will usually find that there is a real estate organization
behind the location and/or business—a prime example is Global Switch. From my
perspective, being a Chartered Surveyor allows me to work with detailed knowledge
of the real estate occupational structure of a data center end user and combine it with
my detailed technical knowledge of the sector.
