Your nervous system is directly responsible for reducing inflammation Dr. Dan Durrieu Family Health Chiropractic 5015 W. Waters Ave. Tampa, Fl. 33634 PH. 813-882-8181 Many experts now see inflammation arising from an immune system response that's out of control. When you have an injury, catch a cold, or your body responds to irritation, your immune system switches into high gear. Infection or injury triggers a chain of events called the inflammatory cascade. e familiar signs of normal inflammation are heat, pain, redness, and swelling. ese are the first signals that your immune system is being called into action. Your body starts to call out for your white blood cells to come and clear out infection and damaged tissue . ere are also equally powerful anti-inflammatory compounds being released to enhance the healing process as well. is process of communication happens through the nervous system when the brain sends a signal through the spinal cord out the vagus nerve to tell your immune system how to heal correctly. How do we know if this is happening in the body the way it is supposed to? A study was done on the connection between the nervous system, immune system and inflammation at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Granstein and Dr. Murphy proved how the body has a direct link between the nerves telling the body to fight off inflammation by using the immune system. ere is one important way to make sure your nervous system is working at its optimal level in reducing inflammation and that is by analyzing your body for subluxations. A Doctor of Chiropractic analyzes your body for vertebral subluxtions using various techniques to detect and correct problems in your nervous system. Some of the techniques include thermography, high digital frequency x-ray, orthopedic test, palpation for fixations, and gentle spinal adjustments. Chiropractic adjustments have shown promise in reducing inflammation, both in joint injuries and chronic systemic issues. Vertebral sublaxtions can cause nerve pressure, causing blockage that backs up the flow of important nutrients throughout the body. When the spine is adjusted, normal bio-mechanics return to the body, and stop the production of neuropeptides, which have been shown to cause inflammation. Other chemicals in the body called cytokines have been known to cause inflammation, and a buildup of these can cause major issues. A recent study conducted at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College showed that regular chiropractic adjustments might help reduce production of cytokines. e study indicated that the adjustments helped not only the affected area , but other parts of the body too. is early research shows promise in the efficiency of chiropractic care for many kinds of inflammation issues, such as in arthritic knee pain, a sore throat, viral related infections and more serious types of inflammation diseases such as heart disease and cancer. So you may want to consider consulting with a chiropractor to see if adjustments could help ease your symptoms. Family Health Chiropractic in Tampa has the latest equipment and technology to detect and remove your subluxations that could be directly linked to your inflammation.
