quirements is important. Having skilled in- dividuals available to monitor and support the cloud environment and the compliance status is also important, as these individu- als can tell when something is in danger of being out of compliance and can remedy it. e longer a breach goes unidentified, the more personal data is being compro- mised and the greater the punishment. e failure to monitor security solutions and compliance status around the clock can put a business at risk. Some hosting provid- ers offer solutions for businesses to view their cloud environment's PCI compliance status and their cloud's HIPAA compliance status quickly. Additionally, these providers may have skilled teams to monitor system health, security-solution activities, compli- ance and more. To avoid fines and reduce the chance of failing a HIPAA or PCI compliance au- dit, select a managed PCI-compliant host- ing provider or HIPAA-compliant hosting provider that will design an environment around your business's specific needs—in- cluding compliance regulations—from the start. myth: "my cloud has little downtime and great disaster recovery, so my hyBrid cloud is covered." In reality, just because one part of your hybrid cloud is set up to give you high availability and disaster-recovery capabili- ties doesn't mean that every part of your deployment is covered. In fact, in a hybrid scenario, you must pay attention that all required areas are covered for disaster re- covery and don't assume just because parts of your application or system are protected that the entire application is. myth: "you can't get flexiBility in the hyBrid cloud." Trying to predict demand is difficult at best, and expensive at worst. Getting it wrong means either customers won't get the service they expect or the business is burning money buying unused capacity. But the vastness of the cloud means it's easy to scale up or down to meet demand. Businesses can add additional horsepower as they need it, like during the holiday season, and do it fast, then go back to normal levels. It's essentially a pay-as- you-go model that translates into more- efficient use of an organization's resources. What's more, businesses no longer need to maintain a number of dormant servers themselves just for the few times a year the extra performance or load is needed. Developing the perfect hosting infrastructure oen consists of multiple variables including public, private and dedicated servers. at is when a hybrid cloud-computing model becomes the ideal solution for performance, reliability and security. By using multiple platforms, businesses have the freedom to distribute workloads to the optimal environment. ey should therefore not let any lingering myths prevent a move to the hybrid cloud if that is what will best address their needs and enable them to focus on running their business, not their infrastructure. n about the author: Andrew Hodes is CTO for INetU.
