Now that you have at least a skeleton data center design in mind and you've
chosen a general contractor to handle the project, you must address the
legal side: the contract. The construction contract is ideally intended to
protect both sides of the arrangement from the vagaries of the other and to
clearly define the responsibilities of each party. But like any human endeavor,
contracts can run into major snags that—even if they don't bring your project
to a complete halt—can make life miserable. So before signing a contract,
consider some of the hazards that may arise and how to avoid them.
