Exercise: THE Most Important Factor for Optimal Health and Longevity ere's an overwhelming amount of evidence confirming that physical exercise is the key for disease reduction, optimal mental, emotional and physical health, and longevity. So, it's not so surprising to see that this latest study published in the June issue of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise found that physical fitness appears to have a greater impact on certain metabolic risk factors than body fat does. is echoes previous findings from 2008, which also concluded that fitness is a far better indicator of overall health and longevity than body mass index (BMI). As stated earlier, one of the primary benefits of exercise is that it normalizes your insulin and leptin levels, with the secondary benefits of weight loss and normalization of blood sugars. ese basic factors in turn cascade outward, creating a ripple effect of positive health benefits, which include: • Improving your brain power and boosting your IQ • Lowering your blood pressure • Relieving pain • Acquiring fewer colds • Lowering your risk of heart disease and cancer • Curing insomnia • Balancing your mood and fighting depression • Lowering your risk of diabetes and reversing pre-diabetes • Building strong bones • Losing weight • Increasing your energy levels • Slowing down your aging process Page 10 | Abby's Magazine - www.AbbysMag.com
