During the high-growth years of 2003–2008, many organizations scrambled
to keep up with capacity demands, rapidly adding new power equipment and
putting in place the power infrastructure that would provide enough power
capacity for a 10- to 15-year planning cycle. Many of today's data centers
are still supported by the equipment that they put in place back then. New
IT technologies and increasing business demands are driving changes to the
way in which power systems that support data centers are viewed.
