Page 6 | Abby's Magazine | instagram.com/abbyshealthfood I have high systolic blood pressure, but normal diastolic blood pressure. Is there anything you could recommend for that? You have what is referred to as "isolated systolic hypertension". It is the most common form of hypertension in the elderly and is generally considered to be caused by reduced arterial elasticity. This can be due to increased calcium and collagen deposition and fibrotic remodeling of the vascular system, i.e. plaque buildup. These changes to the blood vessels can have multiple causes. I would recommend 3 g of MSM (a type of organic sulfur), 300 mg of Chelated Magnesium, 2 capsules of Nattokinase on an empty stomach, Biosil Silica, and 180 mcg Vitamin K2 (MK-7 form) with food. Increase herbs and spices in the diet to reduce inflammation in the arteries. Consume fruit and hot peppers for vitamin C sources. Oats are high in Silica. Garlic, onions, and cruciferous veggies are high in sulfur (meat is too, but I wouldn't recommend eating more of it for this issue). Flax seeds are high in magnesium. Liver, cheeses, egg yolks, natto, and sauerkraut are some sources of vitamin K2. Be well. I'm on Sertraline for depression. Can I also take GABA for anxiety? I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice, however, from what I know, Sertraline is an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) which does not significantly affect GABA or benzodiazepine receptors. Talk to your doctor before making any changes. I was recently diagnosed with SIBO. What supplements do you know of for that? Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), as you may know, is a condition where there is an elevated level of both good and bad bacteria in the small intestine. This can predispose one to diarrhea, gas, bloating, constipation, belching, indigestion, and weakness. A number of factors can increase the risk for developing SIBO. These factors include, but are not limited to: acid reflux medications, antibiotics, pancreatic insufficiency, liver/gallbladder issues, gastric bypass, diabetes, hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid), and celiac disease. An antimicrobial formula may help to kill bad bacteria related to SIBO, a digestive enzyme is important for enzyme deficiencies due to pancreas issues, ox bile or a liver/gallbladder cleanse may be helpful for lack of bile release from the gallbladder, apple cider vinegar or HCL may improve low stomach acid, and partially hydrolyzed guar gum or psyllium may be helpful for proper stool consistency. That's the long and the short of it, but there are other important things to know. A more extensive SIBO article will be coming out in my next Collected Works On Health and Nutrition book (Volume 3). So, look for that on my website, at Abby›s, and on Amazon soon. Collin, I have been to see you twice for very high cholesterol...303. With your special help and recommendations I have lowered it to under 250...and still working on lowering it further. I was the one who also has a 60% carotid artery blockage. Another important issue. My question for you today is, what can I do to put on a few pounds without adding cholesterol, and animal products to my diet. I am looking too thin, I was 124 when I began, and down to 113. Any suggestions would be appreciated and very helpful. Thank you Collin for your kind consideration and input. Nuts. Nut intake has been shown to lower cholesterol, yet nuts are high in calories, so they will put weight on you. Thanks for the question. I'm glad you're on your way to getting healthier. with Collin Gow, C. N. C. with Collin Gow, C. N. C.
