Page 22 | Abby's Magazine | instagram.com/abbyshealthfood When we think of a healthy lifestyle, most times we think of elimination or incorporation right? Paleo, keto, whole-30, no dairy, no gluten, no seed oils, no refined sugar, working out five days a week. These are all examples of elimination of foods from our diet or incorporation of foods and workouts in our lifestyle. But what about receiving chiropractic care? When most people reference chiropractic care, they are referencing it for pain reasons, or perhaps they know someone who just got in a car accident. But what if I told you that chiropractic looks into your entire nervous system. What if I told you that receiving chiropractic adjustments, directly influences your immune system by making sure your body is equip with all the materials it needs to fight off infections. Let's break down the science of chiropractic so this can make better sense. We have our brain. Our brain then connects to our spinal cord that runs down our back, and protecting our spinal cord is what we call our spinal column, these are the individual vertebras associated with the spine. Our brain and spinal cord are called our central nervous system. I think we can all agree that our brain does a lot of work in telling our body and us what to do, sometimes even the unconscious matters such as breathing and digesting. Your brain receives and sends messages all the time, and most of the times it receives and sends several messages all the time. Your brain will send a message down to the spinal cord, to then be release at the spinal nerve, which is at the level of the vertebra that it designated for the message. So, the spinal nerve in charge of sending information to the heart is different than the spinal nerve sending information to the stomach. Yet, what happens if there is a vertebra out of alignment and it's putting pressure on the spinal nerve coming out at that vertebral level? That is what chiropractors call subluxation. When your body has a subluxation your brain and body can't function or communicate clearly with each other. This can lead to potential causes such as poor digestion, heart, burn, asthma, etc. All because when the brain has a hard time sending/receiving information due to there being a roadblock then there's a dysfunction. So, let's go back to a healthy lifestyle. Shouldn't it be a priority to include healthy communication between your brain and body to ensure that there isn't development of disease. Having a clear nervous system should begin from the moment you are born. This way healthy infants become healthy toddlers who become healthy children and then healthy adults. Why wait for your nervous system to finally be screaming at you through pain, to then go to a chiropractor? Eating healthy, working out, drinking lots of water, taking supplements, etc. These are all wonderful Healthy Lifestyle and the Chiropractic Foundation By Dr. Dan Durrieu and Alexandra Durrieu
