What is a good source to go to in order to find a fair market price for a 1997 Fat Boy? Thanks. You are best off looking at Kelly Blue Book or NADA to determine the motorcycle's current value. Unfortunately, if the odometer reading is no longer displayed, the speedometer is no longer good or repairable. You may be able to order one from Harley-Davidson with the last documentation of mileage. You might be able to use the mileage documented on a registration or service invoice. By Dennis Santopietro Harley-Davidson Headlight Problem I have a 2011 Road King Classic. Recently I began to notice at night a Harley-Davidson headlight problem and passing lamps would blink off and back on occasionally. The Harley Davidson headlight problems worsened and looking at the service manual, I decided the headlight relay must be bad. When I pulled the headlight relay, I noticed some corrosion on the connectors on the relay itself. I ordered a new relay, cleaned the connectors in the fuse box and installed the new relay. That didn't fix the problem. Now, the headlight does not always come on when I turn the ignition switch on. If I turn the handlebars side to side, the headlight and passing lamps will come on. I took the cover off the fuse box and put my finger on the headlight relay, when I turn the ignition switch on, I can feel the relay click. I'm now thinking that there must be a loose connector or ground wire inside the headlight nacelle, any guidance would be appreciated. Joe, throw a towel over your front fender and remove your head light bucket. Inspect your head light, head light plug, and harness. Make sure your connections can be secure and are without corrosion. While your nacelle is open, try to get a look at your passing lamp switch and its harness. If you do not see anything obvious, plug your headlight in while it hangs loose. Turn on your ignition switch and tug on the related wiring harness. If you cannot get the light to go out, move up to your left side switch housing. Tug and poke around that harness while you trace it down into the nacelle. Play with your hi/low switch and your passing lamp switch. If you had a dead short, you would be blowing a fuse. This sounds more like a bad connection or a bad switch. Thanks for the question. Let us know how you make out. Voltage Reading Hello, I've been riding this bike for the past two years and the voltmeter in dash always reads 13.5V at speed. I tried a digital voltmeter which read 13.5V. Tested stator leads 0.1ohm, tested stator leads to ground, both infinite. Installed new battery and a Cycle Electric 48amp regulator/rectifier. Voltage still at 13.5V. Should be reading 14.5. Could stator or rotor both be weak? Really not common to see an Evo with a charging output any higher than 14.20. 13.50 VDC should be sufficient. Don't neglect to test your stator's AC output. It should read 20 VAC per 1k RPM. When to Change the Fuel Filter I have been following a maintenance schedule for what is apparently an older bike, and it says to change the fuel filter every 25,000 miles. However, when I looked at the schedule for a 2013 Touring bike, it says to change the fuel filter every 100,000 miles. Which is it? Thank you for your email. The factory schedule for your year and model would be the correct schedule. You always have to bring into consideration not only miles, but riding conditions and time. New Air Intake – Remap? I have a 2015 Street Bob with 96ci. I bought an Arlen Ness Stage 1 Big Sucker. Can I use it on my Harley without changing the exhaust? Do I need to do remap? Although it is more beneficial to add a less restrictive exhaust, you can run a high-flow air cleaner assembly without changing your exhaust or mufflers. You will need to add and program a tuner. The bike is already lean from the factory. Adding a high-flow air cleaner assembly will make it even more lean. No Mileage Reading and Want to Sell Harley I've got a 1997 Fat Boy. The LED failed on the odometer and I can't read the mileage on the bike. Is there anyone who can repair this unit or somehow certify the mileage?
