WheelsOfGrace.com | Volume 13 Issue 6 | 9 9:1 I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of your wonders. 9:2 I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. Remember your first bike? Wasn't it a beauty? Even if it was an old Honda trail 90, I'll bet it was pretty special to you! Did you hide it under a sheet in the garage or did you parade it all over town? We were so excited about our first Harley that we took pictures of it while it was still at the dealership. Later we would have a professional photographer take our portrait on the bike. Just like a newborn baby we would show our pictures to all of our friends and relatives. And when we took our first trip to Sturgis, all of the snapshots had to have the bike in the foreground. "Here's Mount Rushmore - and our Harley! "and, "Here's the entrance to the Badlands - and our Harley!" Why did we do that? Because owning that bike gave us a sense of pride and we were eager to share all of the good times with others. Some people are sports fans while others are fans of movie stars and rock and roll legends. We wear their shirts and hang their posters on our walls. (I've always loved the six guys who show up topless in a frozen football stadium with their pro team's name spelled out across their naked hairy chests!) Sometimes we are referred to as "motorcycle enthusiasts." Either way, we're "fans" which is an abbreviation of the word "fanatic." David (the writer of Psalm 9) was a fan of God and he vowed, "I will tell of all your wonders." According to this Psalm, God had defeated David's enemies and been an agent of justice and righteousness. He was a "refuge" for David and for all the oppressed. The promise is, "Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you." (v10) Funny thing about people, we are told by retail experts that if someone is happy with a product they will tell three people, but if they are unhappy with a product, they will tell ten. Why is that? Perhaps because human nature takes for granted those good things that have come into their lives. And even though we know that God has blessed us, we fear the label "fanatic!" Oh, we'll stand up and scream at a concert or a football game. Some will even don painted faces and wigs to express their enthusiasm for their favorite team but say a good word about God in public… the one who makes all of life possible? That would be fanatical! Suddenly we become shy at a loss for words and scared! Big tough bikers who declare that they would give their life for a brother suddenly become terrified or even ashamed to speak one good word for their God. Not David! He's bold and enthusiastic…a real fanatic when he declares, "Sing praises to the Lord… proclaim among the nations what he has done." Motorcycles and movie stars come and go but God is forever! If you'll be such a fanatic as to tattoo the name of your favorite motorcycle onto your body can't you tell somebody about the great things God has done in your life? C'mon! Speak up! Be a little fanatical for God! I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.
