10 | WheelsOfGrace.com | #63 1 O Lord, our Lord, how majes c is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 5 You made him a li le lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: 7 all flocks and herds and the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord, our Lord, how majes c is your name in all the earth! When I think of the word majes c, my mind immediately envisions riding through Yosemite or Zion Na onal Park. The dic onary defines majes c as "very grand or dignified; lo y or stately." These beau ful rock forma ons seem to qualify as they cap vate our eyes and draw them upwards towards the heavens… towards God. The popular word used today might be "awesome." But we hear almost everything referred to as awesome: awesome pipes, awesome paint job, awesome ride, awesome wind, and awesome band. None of these things even comes close to what the writer of this psalm has in mind when he speaks of the majesty of our God who created all the great sights, smells, sounds and beau ful scenery that we are so fortunate to be part of as we ride. Isn't that one of the greatest things about riding a motorcycle, having all five senses invaded by crea on? The cliffs tower hundreds of feet above us. The rock forma ons are so beau ful they defy descrip on. Barren rocks graced with crystal falls that spill over the side and splash below dare us to deny that there is a maker. And yet, with all this beauty and grandeur, too expansive and breathtaking to do jus ce with mere words or even fully capture in a photograph, man is the focus of God's special favor. We are told that God thinks about us and cares for us as he considers our individual needs. Just as the beau ful landscape, we are created to reflect his glory and honor as we have been placed as caretakers over his crea on. All of crea on, including man, has been designed to point to the greatness of God. Talk about awesome! What a responsibility… to model the nature and character of our Creator to a clueless and indifferent world. As God is full of mercy, we are to be full of mercy. As God is full of kindness, joy, forgiveness, and love, we are to be the same way towards each other. And as people go through life and interact with us, they should go away having a sense of the presence of God. We bear his fruit… so the world can taste his sweetness In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
