WheelsOfGrace.com | Volume 13 Issue 5 | 25 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel" (Acts 2:14-16, NKJV). This view of Peter on the day of Pentecost is a different Peter than the one that denied Christ three times before His crucifixion. This is obviously a different Peter than the man Jesus picked as a disciple. Peter is depicted here as a spiritual leader, possibly different from the Peter who tried to cut off the Roman soldier's head and only cut off his ear. As we look throughout the New Testament, we see people who were weak or had significant faults that went on to accomplish great things for Christ. What Jesus sees when He looks at us is different from what the world sees and different from what we see ourselves. What did Jesus see when He picked the disciples? Most people would not have chosen the original twelve to carry the message of Jesus Christ through that day and time and throughout the world and eternity. Instead, he picked an interesting group of people: fishermen, tax collectors, zealots (a radical political group), and all ordinary people. They were probably the last people anyone would have picked to carry the Christian faith to reach the entire world with the message of Jesus. How does He see you and me? Does He see us as we see ourselves or someone who is powerfully anointed to accomplish the will that He has set within us? As we look at ourselves in the mirror, we have one image. But Jesus sees us as we can be in Him. Everything that we need to accomplish His will has been set before us, and the price has been paid. He has created each of us for an extraordinary destiny. He looks beyond where we are to where we can be in Him. The devil desires to defeat us, hold us back, and make us believe that we cannot accomplish anything. Jesus died that we might have life and have it more abundantly. He intercedes for us and sees us as very powerful and anointed men and women of God. I challenge you to take a fresh look at who you are and who God's Word declares you to be. May you walk in the faith and the power of God and not believe the lies of this world. You were created on purpose, for a purpose, and everything you have need of rests in our obedience to follow Christ. Go and conquer yourself and your part of the world and see Jesus' destiny fulfilled in you.
