Never Say Never Marty Edwards I once said that I would never ride a trike. Then in 2012 I tried one. It was home-made garage special involving a Dyna and a Lehman kit. It looked amazing, but I lost a few tooth fillings riding the beast! Then I test road a Harley-Davidson Tri- Glide. As I pulled out of the Temecula dealership, the wife and I head south on the 15 freeway towards San Diego. Before I was even five miles out, I leaned back and told her, "I hate it! Let's go back!" She returned the shout, "They gave it to us for the day...let's just keep going!" So, we did. We put a hundred miles or so on the trike that day, putting it through the compulsory paces. I was especially curious about how it would handle in a tight turn. I was also concerned about my wife's comfort. Our previous "garage special" beat her up pretty good. I kept ask her (over my shoulder), "You alright?" She kept responding with an enthusiastic, "Yeah!" Furthermore, all she and I had ever owned were Softails with 16" apes. This fairing things was an all-new experience for me as was the very nice stereo. (The hook was being set!) As we headed for home, we were shooting DOWN the big 15 freeway grade that leads into Temecula. (It's a pretty good-sized hill.) Now, at this point, for those of you who don't know, I was tagged with the road name "Slow Dog" just because I stick pretty close to speed limits and don't split lanes. But on this occasion, my wife leaned over my shoulder and asked with a bit of concern, "How fast ARE you going?" I was so enjoying the ride and the stereo I wasn't paying attention to my speed, which I announced to be 85. I was impressed how solid the ride was I returned to the dealership so, I bought it! For the record: 1. A trike is a lot of fun to ride. 2. It might extend your riding years. 3. They're becoming more accepted every year. 4. There's a lot of storage on a trike. 5. Sand and wind are not an issue. Never say, "Never." You might surprise yourself! Harley-Davidson offers the Tri-Glide and the trimmed down version, the Freewheeler. And like any other Harley-Davidson, customization is always an option. But what if someone teases you for riding a trike? I thought you were a biker? Independent and free thinking ? Don't let anyone tell you what is cool and what is not. Ride your own ride. Enjoy! รจ 36 | WheelsOfGrace.com | #62
