founding members, Friedli was not a World War II veteran. At the time of its founding, he was just 14 years old. Shortly after the events in Hollister he left the club and with other former POBOBs founded the first Hells Angels charter in Fontana (California) which later became the San Francisco charter in 1954. For years he was president of the charter there. In 1958, however, the Hells Angels were ousted from San Bernardino by Sonny Barger, who moved the Hells Angels Mother Charter to Oakland and quickly rose to become the most well- known Hells Angels. In the late 1960s, after serving time in prison, Friedli left the HA and became a born-again Christian. He remained true to the motorcycle culture and years later became a member of Black Sheep HDFC until his death in 2008. So, who was Otto Friedli? We're not altogether sure! But it's enough to know that he, like all of us, was a sinner saved by grace. He left his old world behind and followed Christ. The Spirit in him shined brightly! "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now I'm found...was blind, but now I see." What a privilege to have known this old road soldier and witnessed a life changed by the power of God. b The State of Being Lost Untouched, Unreached and Overlooked In His ministry, Jesus used the coin, the sheep, and the prodigal son to ilustrate what it meant to be lost. The Pharisees saw this as a lack of spirituality in Jesus, but Jesus was sweeping, searching and waiting for the lost to be found. We need a stronger appreciation of what it means to be lost. We need to feel what it means or would mean for ourselves. We need to feel what it means for others. Often the problem is people don't feel lost, so they don't feel the need to be found or to go home. They don't know that God is searching for them. Being lost means having no sense of direction, having no hope, and ultimately it means never going home. (1Timothy 5:6) Being lost can mean that nobody is looking for you. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Romans (10:13-15) Editor's Note: That is precisely why BSHDFC was formed in 1999. There was no other reason to start yet another Christian motorcycle ministry (for there were dozens and dozens, and the number of MM's continues to grow.) Five men recognized a large organization of motorcycles riders (HOG), tens of thousands who were untouched, unreached, and overlooked by the other motorcycle ministries because, "They're just a bunch of yuppies!" No, they were not the stereotypical club members, but rather moms and dads, school teachers, businessmen and construction workers. They weren't drug addicts or gang members or ex-cons, but they were nevertheless hopelessly lost without Christ. They were untouched, unreached, and overlooked because they "weren't so bad." But until we come to Christ, we are lost. Have you ever lied? What does that make you? A liar! Have you ever stolen some candy or a small trinket? What doies that make you? A thief! Men, have you ever looked at a pretty woman with lust in your heart? What does that make you? Jesus said that makes you an adulterer. "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." And that's why even yuppie bikers or "motorcycle enthusiests" need Jesus. But what if the Black Sheep missed their calling, ignoring their mission, underestimated the need of everyday people....or this ministry for something faster, more exciting, more dangerous? The the lost would remain lost. Churches aren't reaching out to bikers. Christians MCs aren't reaching out to motorcycle enthusiests. No, that's what the Black Sheep do. That's our responsibility and God forgive us if we don't understand that. b
