Conventional saunas and steam baths are generally found in gymnasiums and health spas. Infrared saunas are more apt to be found in clinics run by holistic practitioners. People with health problems should consult a natural health care practitioner before using either type of sauna. Soaks and Baths If you don't have access to a sauna or steam bath, you may want to do your own detoxification bath at home. This is prepared by filling a clean tub with hot filtered water (a shower filter or whole-house filter is recommended) as hot as you can comfortably tolerate. There are a number of therapeutic substances that can be used in bathwater. One is Epsom salts, which contains magnesium to relax muscles and sulfur to aid in detoxification and help increase blood supply to the skin. A quarter of a cup of salts is a good start with a gradual increase to as much as two to four pounds per bath. Dr. Chi's Bath Detox is an all-natural herbal product that is a favorite that provides great results. It is added to warm/ hot water in your tub and as you soak for 30-40 minutes, you drink hot water or tea (Asparagus Extract for greater results). Dry Skin Brushing In addition to saunas and detox baths, toxins may be eliminated from the skin by brushing it with a special natural-bristle skin brush. This can be purchased in a health food store. (It's important to get the right kind of brush so ask at the store if you are unsure.) Brush the skin before showering or bathing, stroking toward the heart, gently but vigorously. This will help stimulate lymph flow, as well as remove dead skin cells. Remember, lymph flow is directly related to your immune and detoxification systems. At first dry skin brushing can feel uncomfortable, but it will improve as you keep doing it. The bonus is it will improve your skin tone, too. www.AbbysHealthFood.com CLICK: www.AbbysHealthFood.com BROWSE OUR WEBSITE Where you will find: Recipes, Health Prac oners, News & Events, Specials.
