It is necessary for most all func ons in the body, including diges on, absorp on, and circula on. Water helps detoxify the kidneys, helps dilute toxins, and is impera ve for transpor ng nutrients in and waste out of our cells. Seventy-five percent of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (This likely applies to half the world popula on.) In 37 percent of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is o en mistaken for hunger. Even mild dehydra on will slow down one's metabolism as much as three percent. Lack of water is the number one trigger of day me fa gue. It is very important to drink enough water every day, especially to encourage detoxifica on. Carry your own dis lled or filtered water (never tap water) and store it in glass, not plas c. Try to drink half your body weight in ounces per day. For example, a 140-pound person would drink 70 ounces of water. Adding lemon to your water is a great way to get the water you need and help alkalize the body, which is especially good during any detox program. Lemon is a natural s mulant to bile produc on and helps cleanse the kidneys. For people who do not enjoy plain water, make a pitcher of herbal tea and keep it in the fridge, Chamomile, ginger, or lemon balm. Detox Broth During your cleansing program you may choose to drink vegetable broth throughout the day, which will count as water intake. Bring to a boil chopped organic veggies, such as burdock root, red beets, carrots, onions, celery, daikon, garlic, and any sea veggies, turnips, parsnips. Add fresh organic herbs, such as cilantro, ginger, cayenne, lemongrass, parsley, oregano and fennel. Simmer for several hours. Strain and drink warm, 2-3 cups a day.
