Let's Be F AT In 2020 Laz Alba BSHDFC Board, Director of Hispanic Ministries Now that we have all said " goodbye " to 2019 and " hello " to 2020, I would like to ask you a question, what's your New Year's resolution for 2020? Is it to exercise more? Save more money or spend less money? Is it to quit smoking or spend more time with family and friends? Per research on this topic, about 60 % o f people make New Year's resolutions. Research also shows that the most popular New Year's resolution is that of losing weight. Now , I must admit that I personally am not a fan of making New Year's resolutions for a variety of reasons, primarily because I do not like to feel like a failure when I break my resolution by February. However, for 2020, I've decided to try this resolution thing one more time and so my New Year's resolution for 2020 is to be FAT ! I first heard the acronym FAT while watching a vide o clip of Billy Graham's memorial service. His youngest son, Ned Graham said: "I just want you to know my father was FAT – he was faithful, he was available and he was teachable ! M ay we all be that way." I thought, what a simple yet powerful way to describ e a man that was so mightily used by God . So, if Billy Graham was FAT, well then, I want to be FAT also ! So now, I invite you to join me in putting on some extra lbs. and be FAT ! F aithful, A vailable and T eachable in 2020. Let's resolve to be FAITHFUL : To be faithful means to be loyal, constant, and steadfast. Do we display these characteristics at home, our church, our workplace, within our BSHDFC ministry? How about in our personal relationship with Jesus? In the bible, we can read about faithfulness in Deut eronomy 28 , Prov erbs 28:28 , Matt hew 25:23 and L u k e 16:10. The principle that we clearly see in these scriptures is that there are blessings that come with being faithful. God honors faithfulness ! Most importantly, how can we not be faithful to Him W ho is ALWAYS faithful to us ? Dear brother s and sister s : L et's commit to be faithful men and women of God and we will see God work in and through us in a mighty way for His glory ! Let's resolve to be AVAILABLE : Serving Jesus is not about ability, but availa bility ! Do we make ourselves available to PAGE 8 / WWW.BLACKSHEEPHDFC.ORG serve within motorcycle ministry ? Our BSHDFC ministry happens when we show up at our local HD dealership , w hen we show up to our local HOG meetings, rides and events. We are available w hen we meet bikers and shine boots at a local biker rally and w hen we go to the hospital to visit a sick or injured biker. Simply put, BSHDFC ministry happens only when we show up, PERIOD! Let us echo the same words that Isaiah did in chapter 6:8 "…Here am I! Send me." I guarantee t hat if we make ourselves available, God will use us, our chapters, and our motorcycle ministry and we will be blown away by how God will work ! Lastly, Let's resolve to be TEACHABLE : In 2 Timothy 2:15 we read "Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth." We need to be committed to the daily reading and studyin g of God's Word. Why? B ecause God is pleased with us when we diligently seek Him through His Word. Secondly, because (as believers and members of B lack Sheep ) we need to always be ready to minister, to share the G ood N ews of the G ospel. I like to say , "you can't give, what you don't have." We never know when God will place us in a situation to minister to someone in need, to share the G ospel, to pray for someone or to share our personal testimony. The point is , we need to be ready at all times and that requ ires some spiritual sweat on our part. Let's commit to a daily, disciplined and personal time of reading and studying God's Word , and praying and (most importantly) applying God's Word to our lives. In doing so, we will ensure that we are ready and properl y equipped to serve Jesus Christ in this ministry He has given us. . My Black Sheep family, I'm extremely excited and so looking forward to 2020. We have many new and exciting things taking place within our ministry. Let's stay focused. Let's pray for our m inistry and above all let's be FAT. I l ove you all! Francis Chan on FAT Ministry " God doesn't call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn't come through. " FC " Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don't really matter." FC "The irony is that while God doesn't need us but still wants us, we desperately need God but don't really want Him most of the time." FC
