BSHDFC Statement of Faith The members of BSHDFC come from many different Christian churches and traditions. Our members are Baptist, Lutheran, Nazarene, Methodist, Free Methodist, Catholic, Episcopalian, Calvary Chapel , Reformed, Armenian/Wesleyan and more, but what is it that we agree upon ? That would be, our Statement of Faith . A. We believe the Bible is the authoritative Word of God. "All Scripture is God - breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (II Tim. 3:16 - 17) B. We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons; the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men , the man Christ Jesus..." (I Timothy 2:5) "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." (John 14:26) C. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in all of His miracles, in His substitutionary and atoning death through His blood which was shed on the cross, in His bodily resurrection to the right hand of the father and in His personal return in victory and power. JESUS IS LORD! "Therefore God exalted him [Jesus] to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9 - 11) D. We believe that all persons are sinful and lost and in need of salvation and that that salvation comes only through the name of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cros s. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." (Romans 3:23 - 24) E. We believe in the present ministry of God the Holy Spirit; in His convicting, cleansin g and empowering work. PAGE 4 / WWW .BLACKSHEEPHDFC. ORG "For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a s pirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." (Romans 8:13 - 15) F. We believe in the resurrection of all persons; that they are resurrected to either eternal life and glory or to ete rnal damnation. "...Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be m ade alive. (1 Corinthians 15:20 - 22) "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." (Matthew 10:28) G. We believe in the spiritual unity of all Christians. W e are the church, united as the bride of Christ. "Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." (I Corinthians 12:26) The Roman s Road What is this thing called, "The Roman Road?" It is a seri e s of scriptures in the New Testament book of Romans that serve as an explanation of how one can come to Christ, or articulate their faith in Jesus Christ. The first verse on the Romans Road to salvation is Romans 3:23 , "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." We have all sinned. We have all done things that are displeasing to God. There is no one who is innocent. Romans 3:10 - 18 gives a detailed picture of what sin looks like in our lives. The second Scripture on the Romans Road to salvation, Romans 6:23 , teaches us about the consequences of sin – "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." The punishment that we have earned for our sins is death. Not just physical death, but eternal death! The third verse on the Romans Road to salvation picks up where Romans 6:23 left off, "but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 5:8 declares, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Jesus Christ died for us! Jesus' death paid for the price of our sins. Jesus' resurrection proves that God accepted Jesus' death as the payment for our sins.
