Page 42 | Abby's Magazine - www.AbbysMag.com The Secret In as much as this is an overused word, we still think we have the "secret" to gaining control over oral bacteria that can wreak havoc in the teeth, gums and bone in the oral cavity. Recognizing you have a problem distills down to a few things. 1. Smell or taste 2. Redness 3. Swelling 4 Bleeding around the teeth 5. Pocket depth, a little hard to find out on your own! Each of these things can be annihilated with the proper communication to the area we call the dental sulcus, the natural space found between the tooth and the gum tissue that surrounds the tooth. This unattached gum space is deeper between the teeth than on the cheek side or the tongue side. Also, a tooth may have a concavity or surface that curves inward, which makes cleaning more difficult. The purpose of the sulcus is to connect the gums to the teeth in a way that stops disease-causing bacteria from entering the teeth and body through the gums. The tissue of the sulcus contains a high number of white blood cells which are the cells of the immune system that protect the body from infectious disease. In healthy gums, the depth of the sulcus is 2 mm. If the pockets exceed 2 mm it tells you that bacteria are getting the upper hand, entering the sulcus, attaching to the tooth and tissue forming a biofilm, a hard layer of protection around the bacterial colony. It takes only 24 hours for the bacterial deposit to form into colonies and in seven to ten days the colony structure is such that it can support a variety of anaerobic bacteria. Elimination of the bacteria requires more than just brushing. You must change the acidity level in the sulcus and also stimulate the gum tissue to increase the flow of blood, which brings nutrition and oxygen to that area. Stimulating the gums area also removes waste from the tissue. The Secret involves using a soft brush to "push" a mixture of sodium bicarbonate and Himalayan or Celtic salt, moistened by colloidal silver or hydrogen peroxide (colloidal silver if you have mercury fillings) into the sulcus with a vibrating motion. This is followed by a rubber tip stimulator at the gum level between the teeth, to increase the blood flow and shrink the swelling around in the gums. The Secret creates an environment in which the harmful bacteria cannot live, one high in oxygen with colloidal silver and/or hydrogen peroxide, salt and baking soda which neutralizes the acid in the sulcus. The purpose of applying these techniques is to reduce the depth of the sulcus, so you can thoroughly clean your teeth and gums on a daily basis with a small brush, rubber tip and dental tape or floss. See our web site for a full rendition of how to mix, apply and stimulate. www.behmnaturaldentistry.com http://www.behmnaturaldentistry.com
