12 LONG CENTER PRESENTS 12 José González SAT, FEB 3 | DELL HALL | 8PM The Artful Songwriter From Sweden Returns to Austin González is renowned for his mix of autumnal indie pop and intimate acoustics. In 2003 he released his debut album "Veneer" to critical and commercial acclaim, featuring his trademark sound—solo classical guitar with soft vocal melody—and selling over 700,000 copies worldwide before going Platinum in the UK. His latest album, "Vestiges & Claws," features a marked sonic shift: "I started out thinking that I wanted to continue in the same minimalistic style as on my previous records, but once I started the actual recordings I soon realized that most of the songs turned out better with added guitars and a more beat-like percussion, and with more backing vocals." e result is an album that is less purist, less strict. It's a collection that coheres perfectly, ensuring González's position as one of the most important artists of his generation. ■ 2017-2018 W I N T E R/S P R I N G S E A S O N + special Guest Bedouine Opening for José González is the Syrian musician Bedouine, touring to promote the release of her eponymous debut—sixties folk meets seventies country-funk with a glimmer of bossa nova cool. ■ JOSÉ GONZÁLEZ (PHOTO BY CHAD KAMENSHINE)
