How Can You Make Your Hormones Work For You Hormones are essential to just about every life process from your growth and develop- ment to your metabolism and passions. The word hormone derives from the Greek word ''hormon'', which means ''to excite'' or ''set in motion''. There are more than 80 identified human hormones, all with distinctly different roles. They can be classified into four categories based on how they work. Steroids, peptides, amino acid derivatives and eicosanoids. Steroid hormones include your sex hormones and adrenal hormones. Peptides represent a wide variety of chemical messengers, including human growth hormone (HGH), insulin, and melatonin. Amino acid derivatives include molecules that are generated using an amino acid as a starting point. For example, epinephrine is made out of tyrosine. Ercosanoids are hormones derived from lipids such as arachidonic acid, lipoxins and prostaglandins. Hormones are kept in balance (homeostasis) through a complex feedback system, and their release is triggered by three principal mechanisms. 1) Certain minerals or nutrients that serve as feedback mechanisms. 2) Stimulation by other hormones. 3) Stimulation by signals from your nervous system. A number of factors can affect your hormone function, such as aging, lifestyle, and environmental factors. These changes can alter your hormone production, hormone metabolism, and how well your target cells respond to hormone messengers. Other signs that show hormonal imbalances are infertility, weight gain, or weight loss, depression, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, low libido, and changes in appetite. Top ten ways to balance hormones naturally are: 1) Eat healthy fats, for example virgin coconut oil, avocados, grass-fed butter and wild-caught salmon. 2) Supplement with adaptogen herbs. Adaptogen herbs are a unique class of healing plants that promote hormone balance. 3) Increase intake of omega-3 fatty acids. (ratio of your omega-3 fatty acids to omega- 6 fatty acid should be 1:1). Omega-6 is found in peanut, corn, canola, so use very sparingly. Omega-3 is found in wild fish, flax seed, walnuts, and grass-fed animal products. 4) Improve Gut Health and Heal Leaky Gut Syndrome by taking in digestive enzymes and probiotics. 5) Eliminate Toxic Kitchen, Beauty and Body Care Products. 6) Exercise 7) Reduce Stress and Get More Sleep. 8) Supplement with Vitamin D3 – important for the immune system. 9) Back off Birth Control Pills. 10) Most Important get adjusted, regular chiropractic care has shown through research to increase hormone production through the body.
