"OK, guys, let's do this," Joe says, clipping into his pedals. And in a stream of color, the cyclists begin their ride. Each week, fellow WAC members along with friends and co-workers join Joe for a regular training ride. They're preparing for the Bike MS Ride later this month, a fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. "It's not about us," Joe explains. "It's about fighting MS." Eight years ago, Joe and Lisa Piper talked themselves into the event, a 150-mile two-day charity ride around the Skagit Valley, for the first time. Back then, they were long on enthusiasm but woefully short on experience and conditioning— especially with just two months to prepare.
