Chiropractic Care for Athletes Studies show it is estimated that 90% of all world-class athletes use Chiropractic care to prevent injuries and increase their performance potential. A lot of people make the conclusion that you go to a Chiropractor for back and neck problems. However research is showing that people reach out to their Chiropractor for other treatments involving problems with their muscular-skeletal system, and a big percentage of these patients are young athletes. Many athletes swear by the positive effects of Chiropractic when talking about their personal successes, like Aaron Rogers who grew up with a father that is a Chiropractor, also Lance Armstrong, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emmitt Smith, Tom Brady, to name a few who swear by their Chiropractors. Participation in sports is encouraged because of how it improves the athletes strength, flexibility, speed and coordination. Even though playing sports has multiple benefits, it can also put a major impact on the athletes body no matter what sport they play. When the spine goes through minor or major traumas the result can lead to a vertebral subluxation that will directly irritate the nervous system which will interfere with the optimal function of the body. As a result, athletic performance suffers. When the athlete gets adjusted on a regular basis, they often attribute their success to regular Chiropractic care. It has been shown that high-impact sports can place the same amount of strain on the body as an auto collision. Athletes getting routine adjustments may notice improved athletic performance, improved range of motion, better flexibility, increased blood flow, and may suffer from fewer injuries. Chiropractic adjustments will reduce the irritation of the nerve roots between the vertebrae so that the healing time from minor injuries are shortened, improving overall performance. Both high-impact and low-impact athletes can benefit from routine spinal adjustments. For high- impact athletes it increases performance and flexibility and lowers the risk for injury, for low-impact athletes (golfers, tennis players), routine adjustments can help relieve the strain that is placed on the body.
