Abby's Farm is the dream and vision of a couple of real visionaries, Abby Sayler and Victor Karydis. They have both been involved in the health industry for most of their adult life and promo ng things like "organic", "non-GMO", etc., way before it was in vogue to do so. They believe that a be er educated public will make be er decisions about what they eat, drink and for their health in general. Abby's Health and Nutri on is celebra ng an amazing milestone, of serving their community and bringing awareness to the health issues of the day……for an incredible 20 years. I was fortunate enough to work with their admin. department before carrying out the mission that is Abby's Organic Community Farm. So, I have heard all of the stories and tes monies from countless people about the impact the store and its amazing staff have had on the health and lives of people in our community. The farm is just proud to be a part of their story and thankful for the opportunity to serve the community in our own unique way. At this wri ng, we will be comple ng the last of our field trips for young people that began in October. We have had the privilege of serving close to 200 people (kids and parents) with hayrides, seed plan ng, bug search and cra s. In addi on, they learned about our raised beds, tower gardens, permaculture, chickens, greenhouse, fruit trees, Moringa trees and compos ng. The field trips gave us some really good insight about the ques ons people have about what we are doing at the farm and how it works, so we thought it would be helpful to do our own li le FAQ's exercise: 1. Is the farm a CSA or co-op that I can pay to join and get fresh organic eggs and produce……or do you sell your eggs, fruit and vegetables to Abby's store or the public? The farm does not sell anything and we are not a "pay to play" en ty. We are a non-profit, volunteer based, educa onal venue, teaching people to grow their own organic food at their home or on our farm. The farm relies on dona ons from individuals and businesses that believe what we are doing is important. (see below to contribute or get involved) 2. So how does it work if I want to be involved? We have a Volunteer Applica on that is filled out and tells us about you, your availability, and your skill set. There are lots of ways to volunteer that don't involve "the dirt". 3. David, you don't understand, I have a black thumb and everything I try to grow dies so how can I possibly contribute? Most of our volunteers have said the same thing!!!! The reality is that success in Florida gardening is tricky and you need to learn the tricks…..in community. Learning about the soil, compos ng, irriga on, exposure, insects and par cularly what to plant and when…….will drama cally change your results. $$$ $$$ Investing in your Health and...
