MEMBERS IN MOTION SWEDE SUCCESS GORDON FOUTS was elected to the board at the Swedish Cultural Center and accepted the position of club treasurer. He also will lead the club's finance and audit committee. Gordon has been a member of the WAC since 1976. He is heavily involved in charitable and social organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House, The Forgotten Children's Fund and Volunteers of America, and is a senior vice president at NAI Puget Sound Properties. Founded as the Swedish Club in 1892, the Swedish Cultural Center works to promote better understanding between the United States and Scandinavian countries, especially Sweden. For more information, visit swedishculturalcenter.org. FIRST LADY'S LETTERS TORENA O'RORKE will soon publish her third book. The Duet Letters centers on 300 real-life letters between former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Jane Brett, the mother of Torena's best friend. Torena has written and published two other historical fiction novels—Always Another Dawn and The Deigratia Prophecy. She attended the University of Washington and was a long-time Seattle resident before moving to Richland. She joined the WAC in 2011. SILVER SCREEN SENIOR Old Goats, a feature-length film written and directed by local filmmaker Taylor Guterson—son of novelist David Guterson, author of Snow Falling on Cedars—will make its world theatrical debut at the SIFF Cinema Uptown on lower Queen Anne on Friday, August 17. WAC member BENITA STAADECKER plays the romantic interest of the movie's lead character. The film, part of last year's Seattle International Film Festival, has won several awards and enjoyed sold-out screenings and enthusiastic audience response at film festivals nationwide. Shot in and around Seattle, Old Goats focuses on three men who embrace their older years with gusto, humor and audacity. For many, the word cantankerous will certainly come to mind. The movie, produced in association with Seattle-based ShadowCatcher Entertainment, marks the film-acting debut of Benita, who joined the WAC in 1990. Ticket information is available at oldgoatsthemovie.com. WAC members can pick up postcards good for a $2 discount on Sunday through Thursday shows at the Club's concierge desk. DOGGONE GOOD LARA THOMPSON-KRAVIK was recently promoted to assistant brand manager at Blue Dog Bakery. The Seattle-based company makes canine treats with all natural ingredients and uses no animal by-products, artificial colors, artificial flavors or preservatives. Blue Dog Bakery products are available at grocery retailers nationwide. Lara was previously a marketing coordinator for Blue Dog Bakery. The company has won various awards and has been featured in a variety of media outlets. Lara joined the WAC in 2008. 18 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | AUGUST 2012
