Club Programs Connect, collaborate, celebrate Volunteer now for 2012–2013 event planning committees Looking to get more involved with what's happening at the WAC? Hoping to connect with members sharing similar interests? Want to have some fun? The annual request period for Club Programs' event planning committees is now taking place. Each year, about a hundred WAC members help plan more than three hundred Club-sponsored events. Member-volunteers bring flavor, flair and fun to Club activities. With five committees to choose from, there's something for every taste and style. To volunteer, take a look at the details below and contact Club Programs with your first and second committee choices. Requests should be sent by August 1. Email clubprograms@wac.net and type "Event planning committee" in the subject line. Also, please be sure to include your name and WAC member number in the body of your message. You may also call 206.464.3060. Volunteers will be notified of committee assignment or waitlist status in mid-August. Committees meet monthly on the days noted below. 2012–2013 EVENT PLANNING COMMITTEES IN THE KNOW ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT Known for great events and parties, this committee puts on the Lake Union scavenger hunt, private tours of museums and exhibits such as King Tut, personalized visits to Seattle's secret speakeasies, evenings with Tom Douglas and much more. Meetings take place from 6–7 pm on Tuesdays, monthly from September through April. The possibilities are endless, and recent favorites hosted by this committee include a tour of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a Chinese New Year cooking class, a cupcake course with Trophy owner Jennifer Shea, the Ultimate Oyster Experience, and perennial favorite GingerMania. Meetings take place from 6–7 pm on Tuesdays, monthly from September through April. NORTHWEST DISCOVERY Day-tripping is this committee's forte. Past excursions have included a Sunday brunch atop Crystal Mountain, a behind- the-scenes tour of the Federal Reserve, an outing to the Chihuly Boathouse, and a visit to Amazon headquarters. Meetings take place from 10–11 am on Wednesdays, monthly from September through April. TWENTIES/THIRTIES Socially connected and under 40, members of this group host popular events for WAC members of all ages, including the Seattle International Comedy Competition, Tubing & Brews, and Taste of Downtown. This is a great place for those in their 20s and 30s to meet others with similar interests. Meetings take place from 6–7 pm on Tuesdays, monthly from September through April. JUBILEE—ANOTHER GREAT WAY TO GET INVOLVED FAMILY ACTIVITIES This committee plans one-of-a-kind events such as these past successes: Kids in the Kitchen and Modern Manners for Modern Kids. It also puts on long-running and highly popular traditions such as parent-child banquets and holiday shows. Meetings take place from 6:30–7:30 pm on Wednesdays, monthly from September through April. Every year, the WAC seeks dealers to help with the Jubilee casino. Volunteers get an up-close look at the casino excitement—working the blackjack, craps or roulette tables—at the Club's biggest party of the year. Volunteers also attend three training sessions in November. This year's Jubilee is set for Friday, November 30. If you have a great event idea but can't serve on a committee, please email Club Programs at clubprograms@wac.net and type "Ideas" in the subject line.
