PART 2 MEDICAL COVERAGE Medical Coverage helps cover the medical-related expenses you incur from a motorcycle accident, regardless of fault. It does not cover the medical costs to treat injuries to others you caused when riding your motorcycle; those expenses are covered by motorcycle bodily injury liability insurance. Medical Coverage insurance is not required in most states, but is an inexpensive way to afford more protec on to you if you are injured in a motorcycle accident. Medical Coverage may cover expenses not covered by your health insurance such as health insurance deduc bles, co-payments, dental care, prescrip on drugs, funeral costs and psychiatric care. Medical Coverage isn't meant to replace your health insurance, but rather, used as supplemental coverage. Medical Coverage can also pay for your medical costs when you are injured in an automobile accident as a pedestrian or when riding a bicycle. Medical coverage extends to your passengers that are injured as a result of a motorcycle or automobile accident when you are the driver. MEDICAL COVERAGE V. PIP INSURANCE While both coverages will provide financial protec on towards your medical costs for an accident, regardless of fault, there are some differences between Medical Coverage and PIP. For example, Medical Coverage will not typically cover loss of income, while PIP will. "No-fault" states usually require that you have PIP or Medical Coverage. However, the "no-fault" rules do not apply to motorcycles in most states and you should ask your insurance carrier whether you can purchase Medical Coverage and/or PIP insurance in this situa on. Medical Coverage and PIP insurance coverage can help protect you if you sustain injuries from a motorcycle accident, regardless of fault. These coverages are rela vely inexpensive to add to your motorcycle insurance policy. The coverage limits are usually set at the low end so there's not a lot of risk to the insurance carrier if they have to pay.
