2020 VISION 32 C A L L E D T O L O V E While in Haiti, Erin served alongside her peers by organizing and staging a four day Vacation Bible School for 250 enthusiastic Haitian children, leading kids in crafts, sports, and skits and providing messages of hope through stories of God's love. She also visited an orphanage and assisted doctors as part of a medical missions outreach. "It's really hard to describe how Haiti affected me," Erin continues. "I can't remember at what point I realized my passion for it, but God has given me this huge heart for that country and for the beautiful people who live there. I've actually been back multiple times since that first trip, and my hope is to return after I graduate from college. I know that God wants me to serve there, but I also know that, despite my plans, it's on His terms and in His timing. My experiences in Haiti have taught me about His character and sovereignty more than anything else in my entire life, and I have learned that I need to give every single day to Him because I know that He will take me where I need to be and that He will equip me to do what He's called me to do. Most of all? I'm just left saying 'Bondye bon' (God is good) because He is SO, SO good!" Erin will be the first to acknowledge that she doesn't have everything figured out yet, but one of the things she learned during her years at Linfield is that it's ok to be a work in progress. Learning how to be an authentic follower of Christ is a lifelong process, and she's excited about where God might lead her in the future. "People sometimes ask me why I'm majoring in Global Studies, a degree that won't necessarily ensure a high- paying job," she admits. "But I believe God has called me on this path. Sometimes it's scary; I really don't know what I'll be doing in a few years, but I have learned that when I pray and trust in Him, God leads me through the doors I'm supposed to enter."
