3. WEIGHT LOSS Losing weight is for more than good looks. Our body stores toxins in the fat because it is the safest place away from our vital organs. e average person is likely to have 500 times higher levels of toxins in their body than what is revealed in the blood serum. Some internal organs may not show the presence of toxins, while the fat may show 1000 times higher than blood. A simple way to detox is to optimize your lean body mass, because you can't store toxins if fat is absent. When you lose weight, you will gradually move the toxic chemicals out of the fat. Exercise is key. is way the toxins are eliminated safely through the skin. is way one avoids the possibility of being reabsorbed into the body. Remember when we detox, we are mobilizing toxins into the body. It is critically important to have a way to eliminate them from the body. Never be afraid to sweat! 4. AIDING YOUR BODY S NATURAL ELIMINATION Regardless of where you get your information about detoxing, one common thread runs with all the advice. To safely detox, you must open up your colon first. Taking a walk in the evening, aer a meal, is wonderful for your digestion. What I have found from personal experience, is that nothing replaces walking. Walking is a basic functional movement. I always feel my best when I accompany walking or running with my kettlebell training. I was amazed when I started measuring my steps, how little I walked. I was likewise amazed how easy it was to add steps throughout the day by doing simple things, like a short morning and evening walk or parking further down the parking lot when running errands. While I don't recommend walking as a stand-alone exercise, I do believe walking is necessary for optimal health. Walking massages our colon and improves our digestion and elimination. When considering the options for detoxing, remember exercise is not an option. Exercise provides a safe and effective way for the body to rid toxins on a daily basis. 2. THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM e lymphatic system is a network of blood vessels and lymph nodes. Its primary purpose is to protect the body against outside threats, such as infections and cancer, while also maintaining a balance of fluids. Essentially, it is the body's drainage system. When we come in contact with pathogens or toxins, they make their way to lymphatic fluid, and are eventually trapped in the lymph nodes, which is where the immune systems attacks perceived threats. Our lymphatic system actually connects to the blood flow to keep the blood clean. To say the least, our lymphatic is an unsung hero for internal cleansing. Our lymphatic system doesn't have a pump, like our circulatory systems. When it gets clogged, our lymph nodes swell, resulting in inflammation. We get our lymph moving by the pumping of our muscles, and exercise is the primary method of moving lymph. A sedentary lifestyle decreases lymph flow by 94%. It's important to note that some forms of exercise are going to be far more effective in moving lymph through the body. Most gym machines work isolated muscles. To best move lymph you want major muscle groups working together. ere is no better way to move lymph than through exercise that involves pumping action. Rebounding has long been praised for this, however, for those who don't own a rebounder, or find rebounding boring, there are easy ways to pump your lymphatic system. is is done in functional fitness. Examples would be body weight exercises, such as jump roping, jumping squats, burpees, or box jumps. When doing high impact exercises, make sure your knees and ankles are strong enough for the impact. ink safety first. A very safe alternative, is low impact exercises, such as kettlebell liing, power and Olympic liing. By adding weight, you can really increase the results. Although its not easy to find research that has been translated from Russian to English, Russian coaches speak of the health benefits of high repetition kettlebell liing. It is noted as an excellent method of detox, and a whole body tonic. From my personal experience, I can vouch for this. When I work with the optimal weight and intensity, I leave the gym not only energetic, but feeling like I have had a total body massage. Well, I have, just not in the traditional way! e dip and drive technique used in weight liing is a pumping action. e advantage of kettlebells is the ability to do a high repetition.
