The rule is to drink half your body weight in ounces. Add lemon, lime or orange to your water which will cleanse out the liver and cut down fat in the body. When you are on a long-term detox you must cut out all alcohol and sugars. Research shows that alcohol and sugars on a regular basis will cause a greater risk for heart disease, diabetes, and cancers. This also includes foods that breakdown into sugars such as bread and pasta. Limit your exposure to harmful toxins in the air which may be found in your home. Carbon Monoxide is an odorless chemical that is produced from furnaces, grills, and car engines. During your detox do not forget to find time to mediate and exercise lightly. Walking, yoga, and Pilates, are ideal forms of exercise. Rest your body in order to heal correctly, which means you must sleep between the hours of 10pm and 2am in order to receive the correct REM cycle of sleep. A detox program can be stressful to the body initially and your nervous system will detect that stress immediately. Living in a world that has toxins at every turn has left our liver function in a danger zone. Everyday there are toxins in our food, air, water, personal care, and household products that are slowly but surely creating a burden on the liver, kidneys, small intestine and large intestine. In order to reverse those consequences and optimize our organ function going forward, we need to know how to detox our body correctly. There are two ways to detox the body. The first way is called Short-Term Detox and the second way is called Long-Term Detox. Short-Term Detox can be done three different ways, fruit detox, liquid fast, and a fruit vegetable detox. Fruit detox is a great way to fast without starving yourself. Getting enough fruit can increase your energy levels, help manage your weight, and even reduce the likelihood of a stroke. For the best results choose a fruit that you enjoy eating so that you don't feel like you are suffering. Do not exceed seven days in a row of a fruit-only diet. Citrus fruits for example oranges, grapefruit, and lemons have the highest detoxifying effects. Grapes are another fruit you can eat that contain resveratrol, which can protect against cancer and diabetes, and can also prevent blood clots. A liquid fast means that you would consume nothing but liquids (water, tea, fruit juice, vegetable juice, and /or protein shakes) for two to three days. Liquid diets can help jump-start weight loss by restricting caloric intake, and are believed to cleanse your body of certain toxins. If your goal is to lose weight, then you will have to change your eating habits once the liquid fast is over, or you will simply gain all the weight back. A Detox with just fruits and vegetables for seven days will have a good amount of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. Be sure to eat a diverse combination of produce to ensure that you are getting the proper nutrients.
