6 GraceRiderMag.com November/December 2015 The middle of fall often gives me the "riding blues". Most can relate. Wet roads, unexpected rainfalls, change in temperature just to mention a few, but riding is still riding. There is something unique about putting on leathers and packing a rain suit in the saddlebags. Unique untill you're in it and remember the last time you took a ride on that perfect sunny day. Although I spend most of my time in front of the computer, I get a ride in every chance I can. I use much of my riding time to escape. Thoughts, prayers, and thankfulness while riding free through God's creation in the muffled sound of my Samson pipes. Mostly…? I am thankful that God reached down one day and pulled me out of the life I was in. Thankful about my wife and loved ones. Thankful about the country I live in and the freedom I have living in this country. Thankful for our troops that are keeping us safe whom I can never re-pay for their service. Thankful to have met and know many other men of God. Thankful for the last ride I took and the next one I will take. Thankful to be in the editor's saddle again, and hearing the encouraging and supportive words from our readers. Most people like to make mental lists of the things they are not thankful for, the things they don't have, the things that go wrong but I learned to shift my thinking and focus on what God has allowed me to experience and allowed me to have and what he has called me to do. This Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday remember to be Thankful and give "thanks" to the ones due, like our military. Your "thank you for your service" comment can change their day. Christmas: makes me think of some of the images I've seen on the internet of motorcycles in the snow. For some reason, everything ties in to a motorcycle for me. But Christmas for me and for you should be much more than that. Get past the Christmas parties and dinners, past the toys and Christmas carols, past the snow and the Christmas tree and get to the meaning of Christmas. Get to where it all started: God's gift to humanity to experience REAL FREEDOM. The freedom that ranks way above riding a motorcycle or flying a plane. The REAL FREEDOM of living in God's will and knowing the Truth that sets us free. Most of us have families, loved ones and much to do around Christmas but others don't. My prayer when I'm riding is that you find the time to reach out to someone during one of the loneliest times of the year. Go visit a stranger in hospice, bring a Christmas toy or two to an orphanage (some will take used toys), have lunch with a homeless dude or gal in your city and tell them about you or let them talk about themselves. If you're a Christian, use that opportunity and every other opportunity this upcoming Holiday Season to tell them why you're reaching out…tell them about the freedom you experience when you ride and about the One that truly set you free!
