S pencer rose from his chair as soon as he saw the surgeon come out of the operating room. He said: "How is my little boy? Is he going to be ok? When can I see him? The surgeon replied: "I'm sorry, we did all we could." Spencer looked down, the surgeon reached for his shoulder. Spencer looked up with teary filed eyes and said: "Why do children get cancer? Doesn't God care anymore? Where was God when my son needed Him?" The surgeon said: "One of the nurses will be out in a few minutes to let you spend time with your son before he is transported to the university". Spencer requested that the nurse stays with him while he said good-bye to his son. He ran his fingers through his little boy's hair. The nurse asked: "Would you like a lock of his hair?" Chocked up he nodded "yes". The nurse cut a lock of his hair and put it in a plastic bag and handed it to Spencer. Spencer replied: "It was Jimmy's idea to give his body to the university for study. He said it might help somebody else. It is what he wanted. I said 'no' at first, but he convinced me by telling me how it could help another little boy to be able to spend more time with his loved ones and maybe grow up to ride a motorcycle 'just in case I don't make it' he said". "My Jimmy had a heart of gold, always thinking of someone else and always wanting to help others, that's why I don't get it!" Spencer walked out of the Children's Hospital for the last time after spending most of the last six months there. He placed the bag with Jimmy's belongings into the saddlebag as a Harley teddy bear fell out of the bag, rolling on the ground. Spencer had given Jimmy the teddy bear on his birthday last February. Jimmy kept it with him by his side when Spencer worked late, until he heard the loud pipes knowing that his daddy pulled up. As Spencer kneeled to pick up the teddy bear from the ground, tears rolled on his face once again. He realized then, it wont be the last time. He quickly wiped his tears, put his dark shades on, and with the thunder roll he headed for home. The ride home was hard and it was even harder to go into an empty home. Not that he didn't do that every night but all those nights he had hope. He took the bag to Jimmy's room and started placing the model Harleys exactly where Jimmy always kept them. He kneeled in prayer on the side of Jimmy's bed and then laid down across the bed and cried himself to sleep holding Jimmy's pillow. Spencer woke up about midnight, from the cold breeze the open window was allowing into the room. He got up to close the window, and noticed laying beside him on the bed a letter. He opened the letter: "Dear daddy, I know you're going to miss me, but don't think that I will ever forget you or stop loving you because I'm not around to say I LOVE YOU. I think of you all the time. Mommy and I love you and miss you very much. Someday we will see each other again. If you want, you can adopt a little boy and give him my Harley toys and teddy bear. He can have my room and you will not be lonely. Don't be sad when you think about me, this is a great place! They have Harleys of all colors and sizes and I'm already riding mine. I picked one just like yours but mine is a little smaller and is called Road-Prince. Mommy, Grandma and Grandpa all met me when I got here and showed me around some, but it will take a long time to see everything. This place is huge! The angels are so friendly and I love to watch them fly. Jesus…doesn't look like any of the pictures I had seen, but I knew it was He as soon as I saw Him. I don't think I could describe Him well…I wouldn't know what to say. And guess what daddy? I got to sit on His knee and talk to Him like I was someone important. I told Jesus that I wanted to write you a letter and tell you good-bye for now. He handed me some paper and His own personal pen to write this letter. I think 'Gabe' is the name of the messenger that is going to drop off this letter to you. He said to let you know the answer to one of your questions: 'Where was God when you needed Him?' He said to tell you that 'God was at the same place when His Son Jesus, was on the Cross. God was right there; He was right there as He always is to help you make it through.' Oh, by the way daddy, nobody else can see what is written on this paper but you. To everyone else it's just a piece of paper dad. I have to give Jesus His pen back now; He has some more letters to write for others. And tonight, tonight I get to sit at the table with Jesus for supper. All the children do. It's like He's everywhere at once. I'm sure the food will be great. I almost forgot to let you know Daddy: I don't hurt anymore; the cancer is all gone. I'm glad because I could no longer stand the pain and Jesus couldn't stand to see me suffer either, so He sent the Angel to get me.
