Abby's Magazine - March / April 2014 | Page 31 Cats naturally eat at dusk and dawn. Playing hunting games with them just prior to feeding (chase a pen light or fishing pole toy) will enhance digestion and satiety. Regular exercise not only burns calories, but it maintains muscle and joint health, improves cardiac function and aides with digestion and elimination. OBESITY IS 100% CONTROLLABLE BY THE OWNER Because the pet is eating what the owner provides I have never met a pet owner who intentionally wanted to feed their pet a diet that would lead to illness or disease. We have however become a society that blindly accepts "truths" without question. We "trust" that pet food companies are developing "healthy" diets for our pets. Recent recalls have awakened us to the dangers of this false belief. And what about the food and supplies for us and our children? Over 80% of the products in a traditional non organic grocery store has chemicals, pesticides or other ingredients that are proven toxic to our health and the health of the pets who entrust their lives to us. From preservatives and chemicals in our cleaning products to the high fructose corn syrup and MSG in the processed foods being marketed to us and our children, the amount of toxicity is staggering. Since the 1940's, there have been over 75,000 synthetic chemicals added to our food supply and our environment. Now I know that I'm preaching to the choir, as those people who are reading this article and Abby's magazine are already on an enlightened path. But we need to do more than change our behavior, we need to influence those around us too. Make a goal to educate and influence 1 person a week to change just 3 things about the way they eat and clean (themselves, their pets and their environment). Support business that are committed to organic and are environmentally green. Vote with your dollars. If we quit buying the toxic products, companies won't keep making them! If we all did this for 1 year, the impact would change the world! 1 Person CAN make a difference!
