A Cornell University professor Brian Wansink, director of the university's new Food and Brand Lab, says that we all need to think more about what (and how much) we consume. His latest studies focused on the unconscious factors affecting American's everyday eating. Wansink argues that 65% of Americans who are overweight got that way because they didn't realize how much they were eating. His studies show that we make upwards of 200 food decisions a day, but only recognize about 15. Some tricks to remember which Wansink says can cut up to 300 calories each day and end up 30 pounds lighter at the end of the year: 1. Sit next to the slowest eater. Pace has a direct impact on quantity consumed. As always, slow and steady won the race. 2. Never eat directly from the package. Portion control is the cornerstone of healthy eating without deliberate dieting. A bottomless bag is a calorie counter's worst enemy. 3. Wrap tempting food in foil. It's the age old "out of sight, out of mind" argument. You can't crave what you can't see. 4. Stick to two or three items at a time at the all- you-can-eat buffet. 5. Get to your Chiropractor. Yes, if your lower back is in pain you might have a problem with your body losing weight. When you have pressure on the nerves in the lower back it will affect how your body digests food. Nerve interference called subluxation can slow down the metabolic activity in your body. A Chiropractic adjustment can realign the bones in your lower back, which will instantly help with your overall digestion and the metabolic activity in your body.
