Why has Dianne devoted her career to fitness? In her words, "Exercise has empowered me as I grow older, and I want to share that success with others. I enjoy teaching others how to look, move and feel younger." She has earned her way to being the go-to source on all things fitness, always focused on educating first. That's why her studio is called The Conditioning Classroom. Last February Dianne published her first book, titled Eating Simply. "We wanted to help people cut through the fog of all the diet advice out there," she says, "and show them that eating well can really be simple." The book is already in its second printing and is available on Amazon or on The Conditioning Classroom's website: www.theconditioningclassroom.com. (See sidebar for a special offer.) Dianne is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, a kickboxing instructor and a 4th degree Black Belt in taekwondo. When the Denver Post contacted her to become a regular fitness writer, she jumped at the chance. "I'm excited to help people understand and apply the truths of fitness and wellness," she says. "There is a lot of misinformation available that wastes people's time and energy. Working the right way for your body will make all the difference towards reaching your fitness goals." Bernadette, a client from Highlands Ranch, has reaped the benefits. "The program changed my mental health and helped me lose 5-plus percent of my body fat. Stress is a big contributing factor in my weight problem as well as fatigue. I was convinced I had no time to exercise…well, (Dianne) showed me the way." No matter the obstacles, the right exercise program can help get you on the right track to looking, feeling, and performing your best—even as you age. A tip from Dianne: "If you are just beginning, don't go too hard right away, especially if you are older. Challenge yourself with resistance training and variable cardio, but don't overdo it. Progression and periodization is key. All of the trainers at my studio are taught to help each client progress according to their individual fitness level. Everyone has to start somewhere." Sound advice from one of Denver's best known fitness experts. Five Essentials to Being Fit as You Age 1. Full Body Resistance Training (free weights) 2. Variable Interval Cardio (walking, riding a bike, elliptical training, etc.) 3. Periodization (changing up your workouts) 4. Supportive Nutrition (eating that supports your goals) 5.
