C > ontact four local newsletter editors to ask C if they would feature your article. > oin a fibromyalgia support group in the north J part of the city. 16 If you've chosen fibromyalgia as your specialty, this means finding the newsletters that go to the fibromyalgia community and asking to write regular columns on how your modality helps that condition. Not a great writer? Take a class to increase your skill. If that seems too daunting, find a friend who will help you become a better writer and trade your services in return. There are lots of people who are great writers and will be willing to help you improve. Networking means joining groups where there are high concentrations of your target market. Again, if your focus is fibromyalgia, find the support groups that are organized for that purpose. Join the group, pay your dues, and even become a treasurer, organize an event, and get deeply involved. This type of exposure will pay back ten-fold. While you're at the meetings, be discrete about your business. Don't feel like you have to run around handing out your business cards. You'll just annoy people and isolate yourself. Put the needs of the group first, and your business needs will be met soon after. Consistency Your marketing efforts must be consistent. This means that you don't change your focus with the changing winds. You can't be the "fibromyalgia guy" this month and switch to the "sports injuries guy" the next month. This will not engender trust with either group. And you won't be able to market effectively (remember the splashing water). Keep your focus clear and consistent. Even your marketing tactics should be long-term. For instance, with your networking activities, don't join 15 groups and try to flit between them all. Join one or two and get deeply involved. If it doesn't seem like it's working, of course you can quit. But give it time first. Just because you're getting tired of seeing the same old faces doesn't mean it's necessarily time Hours Needed to move on. Keep your focus. Keep your momentum. Stay consistent. Sample Marketing Plan What does a good marketing plan look like? The simpler the better. Estimate the amount of time you'll be able to dedicate to marketing each month (at least four hours a week) then determine what you can do in those hours. Plan to do less than you think you can accomplish. People generally underestimate the time it takes to do tasks like this, so cut yourself some slack to accomplish the things you want to do.
