BSHDFC E-Mag November 2018 | Page 9 You can be sure there are one or more toy runs happening this month near you! It may be put on by a hospital or another motorcycle organiza on, but your presence there is a priceless opportunity to represent kindness in a harsh and calloused world. Even if you are a lone area contact for BSHDFC, you can be a part of something that is magical! There are several good reasons to search out and par cipate in a local toy run. (1) It's an easy and inexpensive way to make a BIG splash with kids and the community. (2) It's an opportunity to do something kind in a climate where kindness is being swapped for divisiveness and bi erness. Here's your chance to be the light instead of the darkness. (3) It's your opportunity to prove that not all bikers are bad. Some are just kindhearted people who want to help others. (4) It's also your opportunity to represent the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When you ride in with a Chris an patch, it says something to those who are watching: "Chris ans care! Chris ans are a part of the answer." When the people brought children to Jesus, the disciples sent them away, presumably because He would not have me for such li le things, but Jesus demonstrated just the opposite. He said, "Let the li le children come to me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." People may not bring the children to a bunch of scary bikers, but we can go to the children and bless them and thus fulfill the heart and mind of Christ. Christmas toy runs (1) A dozen or more designs were presented to the original five members of Black Sheep who then chose the present day patch. (2) The Black Sheep have a one piece patch on their back (not three) because they are not a club, but a ministry. Clubs usually have a three-piece patch. (3) There are two large M's on the patch to further make it clear to other riders that BSHDFC is a Motorcycle Ministry. (4) The cross is at the center of the patch because the cross is central to the Gospel and to BSHDFC: "Christ and Him crucified." (5) A theme verse (Romans 1:16) circles the patch to declare that BSHDFC is not ashamed of any aspect of their ministry or message. (6) There is a military theme (center shield, banner, horse and rider with lance) that runs through the patch because Chris an ministry is indeed conflict. See 2 Corinthians 10:1-6 and Ephesians 6:10-20. (7) The bo om of the shield says, "Harley-Davidsons for Christ" because Harley-Owners Group is our primary mission. (Black Sheep now offer an alterna ve patch with the words "American V-Twins For Christ" due to the increase of Victories and Indian motorcycles. (8) The color of the threads in the BSHDFC were chosen to match those in the HOG patch. (9) The BSHDFC patch is NOT PURCHASED but EARNED. Some clubs suggest that Chris an patches are bought instead of being earned through a "prospect" period. Black Sheep members earn their patches through a mentorship training period. Any fees a ached to membership are administra ve only. (10) The patch is NEVER owned by an individual but always remains the property of the BSHDFC organiza on. A member may keep and wear the patch as long as they are an ac ve or re red member in good standing. Members who simply leave the ministry must return the patch to headquarters. Patches in the possession of members must always be treated with the respect outlined in the BSHDFC bylaws. 10 Things You MaY noT have Known abouT The blacK sheep paTch
