How To CHoose A Good PumPkin
1. Avoid The
Mush: Pumpkins
need to be firm.
Mushy pumpkins
have poor
accelera on!
2. Avoid Brown
Spots: Spots on the
outside may indicate
spoiling on the
inside or even bugs!
A good mechanic
can work out most
of the bugs but why
not start with a
spotless pumpkin?
3. Have A
Good Handle:
Every pumpkin
needs a good,
sturdy handle.
If you pick up
the pumpkin
and the handle
breaks, put it
back! Some
riders prefer
tall handles…
say sixteen
inches or so.
4. Pay A en on To Shape: Round or oval pumpkins are the
easiest to work with. A misshaped pumpkin will not have a good
cavity for the seeds or be desirable for carving…and we all know
how important carving can be on mountain roads.
5. Go Orange: Pumpkins come in a variety of colors but orange
is the tradi onal color. (Especially orange and black.)
6. Look For Frost Damage: If you
live in a cold climate, beware of frost
damage – which lessens the shelf life of
the pumpkin... and maybe you!
