Selah 3 But you are a shield around me, O Lord; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. 4 To the Lord I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill. Selah 5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. 6 I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side. 7 Arise, O Lord! Deliver me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. 8 From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people. Selah King David had plenty of enemies. It comes with being a king. But in Psalm 3, his enemies are being led by his son Absolom. Can it get any worse than that? Your own son trying to kill you? But look what is at the end of verse two, just before David's rescue in verse three. It's the word "Selah" which means to take a "dramatic pause." (Stop! Think! Breathe! Listen!) And then David realizes, "God is my shield!" When asked why they ride a motorcycle, many will say that it's their escape, a chance to think and put things in perspective. Just fifteen minutes of the wind in your face, the vibrations and the roar of an engine is enough for some people to get a whole new start on their day. Why? Because it's so easy to be swallowed up by the Absoloms of this world. Life is coming at us so fast sometimes we lose our bearings. It's like riding through the fog and we Pastor Marty Edwards, BSHDFC have lost all sense of direction and perspective. We are no longer even sure of where we are. We need to rise above the mist. Selah. By pausing and listening for the voice of God. If we would take the time to listen carefully, we would discover that we are not alone. We would realize like David that God Almighty is ready and willing to speak into our confusion and be our shield, protector and guide. He wants to put His hand under our chins and lift our heads so that we can see the truth. And what is the truth? It's that life is hard, but God is good and we don't have to go it alone. And it doesn't matter whether there are ten Absoloms or "tens of thousands" because in our corner we have God Almighty. Take a ride with God today! Twist that throttle and celebrate the freedom you have in him. Take in all of creation; the mountains, the sky, the smell of fresh cut grass, and know that there is a God in Heaven who loves you very much! He is your shield and protector! Nobody cares more about you and your day than him! Selah. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. John 10:27-28 Pastor Marty Edwards BSHDFC The Roar of Silence The Roar of Silence Psalm 3
