When my husband Robert finally got his motorcycle, I recall him saying how much he wanted to use that bike as a tool to serve the Lord. I thought to myself, "How awesome! What a great idea!" But I also wondered how exactly would he do that? Shortly a er his purchase, I'd see him online checking out "motorcycle ministries." He would call me over to show me what he had found, but would then move on to look for others. He was already discerning "ministry" verses "riding clubs." Then one day, he came across Black Sheep: Harley-Davidson for Christ. It seemed to him, this was it! A few weeks later he was speaking with a Black Sheep member who lived in our area. His name was Laz Alba. I was thinking to myself, "How awesome is that? A door for him to use his bike to serve Christ!" So I said to him, "You Go Husband of mine! Ride for the Lord!" A few days later, Robert asked if I would be free to meet with Laz and his wife Laura. (Wait, what!?) All this me, I assumed this would be his ministry opportunity, not mine! He said to me, "They want to tell us how we can serve together through the Black Sheep. I thought to myself, "I don't ride a motorcycle! He does!" So, I responded with "You know, I think it's a great opportunity for you, but as for me, "I'm really busy with the kids, work and I don't think I can commit to this, so hey, go for it!" Robert's said, "This will not be another thing we do separately; either we are both in or neither of us are." He added how much he really felt the Lord was calling us into motorcycle ministry. Needless to say ladies, with the hubby praying – the Lord calling and Robert wan ng to spend more me with me…I was in! …but I was ptoeing. I con nued to pray about how exactly I would be used in a motorcycle ministry and what was in store for us. In me, I began to understand that the Lord was not going to have me become anything other than who I already was and using whatever gi s He had already given me. I knew I would be connec ng with others while staying transparent and real. Soon I found myself in a HOG mee ng…Me! Yadira Chavira! Female, a 35 year old La na with men and women that didn't mirror any of what I just men oned about myself – but the connec ons s ll started to happen! These new friends of mine loved me and I loved them! I can do this! Conversa on started happening a er the HOG mee ngs: "Can I talk to you for a minute?" and "I was wondering if you could say a prayer for my nephew?" or "Can you come by the hospital? One of our members is having surgery." That's how ministry started! God uses us in rela onship with others! Keeping myself available to minister to the ladies of HOG has been huge! I am receiving calls and text messages with requests, reports, follow-up needs and even requests just to "catch up" with one another! Just recently, one of our HOG couples was about to move out of state. It was going to be their last HOG mee ng with us. I had to leave early, so I quietly slipped out of the mee ng, when half way down the hall the wife caught up to me and embraced me, telling me she couldn't leave without telling me "good-bye" and how much it meant to her that I was there for her. Wow! I could never have foreseen how the Lord could have used me – but He did! Women in Black Sheep are so vital! There are so many women in the motorcycle culture! Some are riders and some are passengers like me who watch the road from the backseat! There are opportuni es for ALL of us to be vessels of encouragement and hope, bringing the Love of Jesus to people! So, here I am. " " – a patched member of Black Sheep, Harley-Davidson for Christ. If you (ladies) feel the Lord guiding you to this ministry ....Get excited! God will use you in amazing ways!
