6 | WheelsOfGrace.com | Issue 41 A wonderful Scripture that has helped me at this point is "Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops" (Jas. 5:17-18). Elijah was an ordinary man just like us. He prayed, and God responded powerfully. Stacy and I have been praying for some major ma ers and God came through for us… and boy did He ever! Do you pray? When God healed the crippled beggar through Peter, Peter and John were called before the Sanhedrin (the highest Jewish court in the land) to give an account of their ac ons. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter boldly spoke to the religious leaders. No ce the leaders' response: "When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men have been with Jesus" (Acts 4:13, emphasis added). Recently, a man that played a major part in my salva on was telling me about an incident in his life that could have ended his life and his family's. A er that incident, this devout Chris an, said to me: "I saw my life flash in front of me and then I thought to my self: 'what am I doing for God?'" Do you have courage? The people you generally see in the Scriptures were ordinary. Their rela onship with God and the ac vity of God made them extraordinary. Did you no ce this statement: the leaders recognized Peter and John "had been with Jesus". Anyone who takes the me to enter an in mate rela onship with God can see Him do extraordinary things through his or her life. Dwight L. Moody was poorly educated, and an unordained shoe salesman who felt God's call to preach the gospel. Early one morning he and some friends gathered for prayer, confession, and consecra on. They heard Henry Varley say, "the world has yet to see what God can do with and for and through and in a man who is fully and wholly consecrated to Him." e d i t o r ' s S A D D L E Our mission is: To educate and entertain the motorcycle enthusiast, promote motorcycle riding through a motorcycle magazine that has a positive message and is worthy to be read by all, free from content that is offensive while glorifying God. EDITOR'S SADDLE WHAT CAN ONE ORDINARY PERSON DO? Moody was poorly educated: he had a fi h grade educa on, he was unordained, his father died when he was four, he was one of nine children raised by his mother, his mother never encouraged him to read the Bible, he was a shoe salesman with a goal to make a fortune of $100,000 in the mid 1800's. It slowly dawned on Moody that, in light of his new faith, his life should not be spent on amassing wealth as much as on helping the poor. In 1858 he established a mission Sunday school at North Market Hall in a slum of Chicago. It soon blossomed into a church (from which, six years later, was formed the Illinois Street Independent Church, precursor to the now famous Moody Memorial Church). By 1861 he had le his business to concentrate on social and evangelis c work. He drew the children of the German and Scandinavian immigrant underclass to his mission with candy and pony rides, and he drew the adults through evening prayer mee ngs and English classes. He was convinced, "If you can really make a man believe you love him, you have won him." There he met and later married one of the Sunday school teachers, Emma C. Revell, with whom he had three children. The Great Chicago Fire in October 1871 destroyed Moody's mission church, his home, and the YMCA. He traveled to New York to raise funds to rebuild the church and the YMCA, but while walking down Wall Street, he felt what he described as "a presence and power" as he had never known before, so much that he cried aloud, "Hold Lord, it is enough!" He returned to Chicago with a new vision: preaching the Kingdom of God, not social work, would change the world. He now devoted his immense energies solely to the "evangeliza on of the world in this genera on." Poorly educated, unordained, father died when he was four, one of nine children, raised by his mother which never encouraged him to read the Bible, a shoe salesman, but did extraordinary things for God. Do you do? Do you pray? Do you have courage? Do you do? One of my favorite quotes of all me: "If your Gospel is not changing others, it hasn't changed you." Peter Kaye
